Electric Vehicle Charger Installation In Watertown, South Dakota.
We offer professional installation of level 2 EV charging systems

Are you getting ready to purchase an electric or hybrid vehicle? Maybe you already own one and would like the convenience of having your own charging station wired into your garage or outside of your home?  The amount of electric vehicles on South Dakota roads is increasing every year.

While many electric vehicles can be plugged directly into a standard 120v electrical outlet, they can take a much longer time to charge. Having a dedicated 240v EV charging station can greatly reduce charge times and also increase your convenience.

Cannon Electric is a full service electrical contractor serving Watertown, South Dakota and the surrounding area. We specialize in the installation and repair of both level 1 and level 2 electric car charging stations for residential clients.  We can install a private charging station in your garage or in front of your home.

What’s The Difference Between Level 1 and Level 2 Charging Stations?

The main difference between a level 1 and level 2 EV charger is the amount of voltage and amps available in the circuit. With a standard level 1 charger you are receiving roughly 120 volts and 20 amps, this is a common household circuit. It can take anywhere from 13-25 hours to fully charge some of today’s electric vehicles.

With a level 2 charger you are stepping up the available electricity substantially with 240 volts and a 40 amp circuit. Your electric vehicle can be charged within 4-5 hours.

If you’re after the best possible EV driver experience then level 2 charging stations are the best option, they are faster and therefore much more convenient for the users.

The EV Charger Installation Process

Installing a new EV charging system is typically a straightforward project. Here is what it entails

1. Initial Assessment:

The first step in installing an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station is assessing your home's electrical system. We will need to determine whether your current electrical service can handle the additional load from the EV charger. Most home chargers require a 240-volt circuit. If your system lacks the capacity for the additional load, you may need an electrical panel upgrade.

2. Determining Charger Location:

Once your electrical system has been assessed, we will decide on the best location for the charger. This is typically in the garage or near the parking spot for the EV. The placement aims to minimize the length of the charging cord to avoid potential tripping hazards and other inconveniences.

3. Installing a Dedicated Circuit:

With the charger location set, we will install a new dedicated circuit from the electrical panel to the charger's location. This typically involves running electrical conduit along the exterior or interior of the house, drilling holes as needed, and pulling wire through the conduit.

4. Connecting the Charger:

Next, we will install a new circuit breaker in your electrical panel and connect the wiring from the new circuit. Then we will install the EV charging station at the chosen location and connect it to the new circuit. The exact installation process may vary depending on the specific model of the EV charger.

5. Post-Installation Testing and Inspection:

After the installation is complete, we will test the charger to ensure it's working properly. You should also schedule an inspection with your local electrical inspector to confirm the installation meets local electrical codes.

I have had multiple opportunities to work with Cody and his team on joint projects. They have always been on site when they said they would. They are effective/efficient when on site. The workmanship looks great and they keep the workspace clean. They focus on customer satisfaction. They pay enough attention to what is going on around them and will help others when they see someone could use a little help.
